Pedal your way to health

23 Jul

Menopause is a very critical stage in the life of women. They are mentally and physically stressed and it is important for the family to support them at this time. Regular exercise and yoga can give some relief, from their stress. Riding a bike is as effective as walking briskly in helping pre-menopausal women keep from gaining weight.
Women can keep off excess weight by biking regularly. For obese women, bicycling just two to three hours per week helps them to ward off excess pounds. Slow walking does not help in controlling the weight, while brisk walking help women to keep away from gaining weight, slow walking does not have such benefits. So it is better to bike or brisk walk seven days a week, the longer you bike or walk, the less weight you gain. Biking is non-impact, so it is joint- friendly, so it is highly recommended for pre-menopausal women. As menopause weakens the bones in a women’s body, some joint friendly exercise is highly recommended.
But it is not advisable to downplay slow walking, as for some people who have not done any exercise in their life, slow walking is at the least some form of movement.
