Gallstones are pebble like substances that develop in the gall bladder. The gall bladder is a pear shaped sac located below the liver in the right abdomen. Gall stones form when bile liquid stored in the gall bladder hardens into pieces of stone-like material. Bile contains water, cholesterol, fats, bile salts, proteins, and bilirubin. If the liquid bile contains too much cholesterol or bilirubin it can harden into gall stones. They can be as small as a grain or as big as big as a golf ball. The gall bladder produces one large stone or hundreds of tiny stones or a combination of both.
Women between the ages of 20 and 60 are most at risk of developing gall stones. Other risk factors include pregnancy, use f birth control pills and hormones therapy, rapid weight loss, obesity, a high- fat low-fibre diet, diabetes and a family history of gall stones. Most patients do not show any sign of gall stones. Chronic indigestion, which gets worse after eating high fat foods and sudden, steady and moderate to intense pain in the upper middle or upper right abdomen are signals of gall stones.
The risk of gall stones can be reduced by regular intake of food without skipping meals, by taking fat-free and fibre-rich diet, by exercising most days of the week and losing weight slowly and gradually.
If left untreated, gall stones may cause problems like inflammation, rupture, perforation or pus formation all in the gall bladder.

Work out at work
Long working hours, mental fatigue, night shifts and a sedentary lifestyle are the main reasons for today’s youngsters to fall victim to diabetes and heart disease. In today’s fast paced life, most people are unable to avoid stress. Office yoga helps in reducing stress, improves health and helps in relaxing tense muscles. It is helpful technique to fight depression, anxiety, helps keep one in good shape, manage diabetes and back ache and reduces risk of heart conditions and stroke.
It is important to sit quietly for a few minutes and concentrate on your breathing. It is important to connect the body, spirit and mind. Close your right nostril with your right thumb and inhale deeply with your left. Then exhale. Repeat with the other nostril.
Stretch your hands on both sides up to your ears, as you inhale. Drop them down to the side in their normal position, when exhaling. The process should be gradual and raising/dropping of hands should follow your breathing.
When you are sitting ensure that your hips and knees are at right angles. Sit straight and tall at the edge of your chair. These exercises will make you refreshed and re-energised. Try to include office yoga two to three times a week.
Vuvuzela

Vuvuzela is the ancient South African horn, which was invented by Neil Von Schalkwyk, has found its way back through the FIFA. Soccer fans use the instrument to cheer their team, but they do not realise that they affect their hearing system. The noise is too loud that it begins to kill nerve’s endings in the inner ear. As the exposure time to the loud noise increases, more and more nerve endings are destroyed.
The sensitivity to noise differs from one person to another, but the general rule is, if a person has to shout above background noise to be heard, then that noise may damage the hearing. Repeated noise from the vuvuzela could hurt the ears since it can make the ears ring or make the person slightly deaf for several hours after exposure to the noise. A ringing in the ears called tinnitus commonly occurs after noise exposure, and it often becomes permanent. Some people are irritated or get anxious over loud noise, which may trigger an increase in their pulse rate and blood pressure or may even result in acidity. Loud noise also disturbs people from doing their work. Habitual exposure to noise above 85 db will cause a gradual hearing loss and louder noises will accelerate this damage.
Bedroom furniture
When we planned to renovate our house we wanted to buy new furniture for all the rooms. The new furniture will add a new look to the old house. There are so many types of furniture available in the market, from the modern, contemporary to the antique. Antique furniture give an elegant look to the house. So we decided to add new antique furniture to the main hall. Though maintaining antique furniture is a little difficult, it is worth the pain. rustic bedroom furniture sets are available in many designs. They add an elegant look to the bedroom, the bedroom had an entirely new look when these bedroom furniture were placed. Matching night tables, armoirs and dressing mirrors are also very beautiful. The cots are comfortable and elegant. There is the dining room furniture which should be both elegant and easy to maintain. The kitchen shelves and sinks were taken out and changed completely, which gave the kitchen a completely new look. It is so refreshing to cook and work in a new atmosphere. As we cannot change our house, changing the furniture lends a new look to the house. It is an easy way to give the house a fresh look.
To play

It is important for children to play a game. Whether it is cricket or hockey or football, they have to get involved in a sport. Parents should not discourage them from playing a sport. It is good for them to move away from their computers, cell-phones and iPods, and devote some time for a physical activity. It is not good for parents and coaches to push the children so hard that they break down in some time.
The mission of sports is to provide healthy, safe and character-building recreation for children. But sometimes when they overdo it, they get injured. Young athletes are forced to overdo and become a professional, so that they can get a scholarship to enter college. But most of the young athletes and parents fail to realise that only few can become professional. The number of children suffering from sports injuries has increased, this is due to overuse of the muscles. Sometimes they have to undergo surgery for these sports injuries.
The major factor in the rising injury rate is the current emphasis on playing one sport all year long, which leaves no time for muscles and joints to recover from the inevitable microtrauma that occurs during practice and play. With increased specialisation, there is also no cross training that would enable other muscles to strengthen and lighten the load. Playing through pain is a bad idea, it is the signal that there is something awry.
Pedal your way to health
Menopause is a very critical stage in the life of women. They are mentally and physically stressed and it is important for the family to support them at this time. Regular exercise and yoga can give some relief, from their stress. Riding a bike is as effective as walking briskly in helping pre-menopausal women keep from gaining weight.
Women can keep off excess weight by biking regularly. For obese women, bicycling just two to three hours per week helps them to ward off excess pounds. Slow walking does not help in controlling the weight, while brisk walking help women to keep away from gaining weight, slow walking does not have such benefits. So it is better to bike or brisk walk seven days a week, the longer you bike or walk, the less weight you gain. Biking is non-impact, so it is joint- friendly, so it is highly recommended for pre-menopausal women. As menopause weakens the bones in a women’s body, some joint friendly exercise is highly recommended.
But it is not advisable to downplay slow walking, as for some people who have not done any exercise in their life, slow walking is at the least some form of movement.
Disease of the 21st century
Diabetes mellitus has won the race to become the “disease of the 21st century”. Poor lifestyle habits like sedentary living, obesity and unhealthy food patterns are the main reasons for the onset of diabetes type 2. It is also hereditary, but it can be avoided by keeping one’s weight under control, taking part in vigorous daily physical exercise, building muscle and burning calories. The main complications of diabetes arise due to its effect on the kidneys, eyes, skin and nerves.
Diabetes can be controlled by lifestyle and dietary modifications. Avoid sugar, refined flour, starchy vegetables, fruit juices, fruits like mango, custard apple and dates, fried food, sauces and alcohol. While under medication be attentive to the timings of the meals. Long periods of hunger and binge eating result in wildly fluctuating blood sugars. Every meal has to contain a combination of complex carb and protein to slow the absorption of glucose. It is not wise to depend only on medicines for controlling diabetes, regular exercise not only burns calories to keep the weight under control, it helps to modify and even slow down the progression of the disease and its outcome. Besides, the obvious benefits of exercise like weight loss, stronger bones and muscles, more flexibility, better mood and higher self esteem apply for a diabetic as much as anybody else and improve the overall quality of life.
On your marks for EXAMS
Thousands of pupils preparing for their exams are sitting in a daze, worrying about their lack of progress. Getting started is often the highest hurdle. The secret to get over the hurdle is to work for ten minutes only, initially. By doing nothing else during that time, even the most reluctant student will become hooked and gain in confidence as the ten minutes stretches into a 15-, 20- or 30-minute session.
Students deserve a short break, they can walk in the garden or inside the room. But don’t watch television. Working without interruption for 10-15 minutes or even longer will give progress. 30 minutes of a concentrated study session each day will give the student two and a half hours of quality study time over a week. By doing this, they could leave some evenings for recreation. A balance between work and play is very important and it can be achieved by planning ahead.
The syllabus book from the examination board will tell what they have to do and past exam papers will show the sort of questions asked. First, they have to get their own notes in order so that they can retrieve information quickly and efficiently. The student has to work on as many past questions as possible to improve their technique and to ensure that they can do them in the allotted time. They can keep a chart to keep track of their progress.
Costumes
I was really nervous and worried when my son wanted to dress up as a play boy for his friend’s birthday party. Children come up with new ideas and their parties always become theme based. I was saved by my friend who told me about the Playboy Costumes available with an online store. The costume comes as a full set with the playboy hat, boot, gloves and everything. I was very happy and my son was happier. All children and adult costumes are available and the most important thing is I was spared from the trouble of going from one shop to the other in search of the necessary things, to go along with the costume. My son came back very happily from the party, as everyone liked his costume and enquired him about it. It was a new experience for him to go dressed as a cowboy and he was asking me a lot of questions about the cowboys. So children get a new experience, as well as they learn something from these parties. Not only the cowboy costume but also all types of costumes are available in this store and the customers get special discounts also.
A weighty matter

Does obesity lead to depression or depression leads to obesity? This is the question in many people’s mind. People assume that being fat is depressing and being depressed actually makes you gain weight. When you feel sad or hopeless you gain weight over a period of time. When you are depressed, you tend to be inactive and do not exercise much, and you tend to eat more. The anti-depressant drugs taken for high levels of depression are also associated with weight gain.
Moreover, the stress hormone cortisol, stimulates and promotes fat storage, especially in the abdominal area, since the body has evolved to store calories during times of stress. In today’s culture we tend to separate the mind and body, but they are much more connected than we realise. Obesity cannot be treated if we focus only on diet and exercise.
Obesity and depression are both really serious public issues that everyone is concerned about. A study has found that depressed people were at significantly higher risk for becoming obese. Depressed people are not that different physiologically from stressed people, their sympathetic nervous system is chronically turned on, and one of the consequences of this is increased fat storage.
