Kids in the kitchen

19 Jul

kidsChildren are experts at smashing, banging and ripping-so why not turn them into mini chefs? The tasks involved in cooking actually help boost kid’s cognitive and physical development. Here are some ways to keep your kids busy:
Two year olds
They are learning to use the large muscles in their arms, so let them wash vegetables, shuck corn, tear greens and snap beans.
Three year olds
To master hand control, let them mix batter, spread soft butter with a plastic knife, and knead dough.
4 to 5 year olds
These kids are learning more refined hand and finger control. Introduce them to manual equipments like juicers and egg beaters. Teach them how to use measuring cups .
6 to 10 year olds
Cracking eggs, decorating a cake are some of the tasks kids can do. Children can do almost any intricate task that does not include dangerous equipment, like sharp knives.
It is not just the work they do, cooking together brings you and your child closer. There is a companionship and understanding, which cannot be achieved just by playing around with them. It makes them feel responsible and gives them a feel of importance. They are happy to help us and it becomes a habit in future.
